Free Body Diagram

Sometimes I have moments like this one... I usually don't tell people about them, especially Charly.

I was walking down the grass hill to my Computer Architecture class. There were some patches of snow on the hill and it was just warm enough that the snow was melting. I better be careful here, I thought, I don't want to slip on this grass.

I made it almost all the way down the hill without slipping... You saw that huh. I said almost.

Yes I slipped. I stepped forward with my left foot but when it hit the ground it just didn't find quite enough friction... To better illustrate my situation I drew a free body diagram. Just in case my Physics teacher reads this and wants to give me extra credit.

Now I'm not sure whether it was my increased reflex speed due to practicing Super Smash Brothers, or whether it was my amazing new balance skills acquired from my new Power Yoga DVD, or if it was a little of both, but I managed to catch myself with one hand.

It must have been quite the site for the entire Utah Valley University institute parking lot. I'm sure they were impressed with my sideways yoga pose on the hill. Unfortunately my hand landed in the only part of the hill that was 98% mud and only 2% grass.

After recovering, I wiped my had off in the grass. The grass was still wet so it worked really well but then my hand became wet which is a problem in itself. Charly would be proud of me though, I didn't wipe my hand on my jeans. Instead, I started waving my hand in the air trying to dry it off.

My wedding ring must have been pretty loose due to the water and maybe the cold air because it flew from my finger spinning through the air, as if in slow motion. One ring to rule them all, I thought as the ring flew out into the aforementioned parking lot. Crap, I don't want to loose that, was the next thought after the Lord of the Rings' reference.

My ring was still in the air but it was headed right out in front of a car that was trying to find a spot to park. I ran out in front of the vehicle chasing my ring. I was not going to loose it. Managing to place my foot in the ring's path I was able to bring it to a stop, pick it up, and then walk around the vehicle.

I wonder if they saw my yoga pose, I thought as I continued on to my class.
